"Another evening spent aimlessly lounging on the couch in the poorly lit room, staring at the ceiling in boredom. My head feels filled with fog and incapable of formulating a single clear, coherent thought. I try in vain to ignore the constant ringing in my ears, to forget the uncomfortable sensation of my tongue in my mouth, to disregard the countless brilliant spots dancing in front of my eyes like TV static even when I close my eyes. This snowstorm of optical impulses has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. During the day, it lurks in shadows and in darkness as a grainy structure of a highly sensitive film, waiting to take over my field of vision as light dims, obscuring the edges of furniture, blurring people’s faces. Tired, I close my eyes and wait for sleep to eradicate, at least until morning, the shimmering that I know will never leave my head for good."
