First Impressions / Self-Portrait, Series of 300 vector drawings, 2015.

A first impression is a piece of information, shaped on the basis of the first meeting with a person, which creates a mental image that influences our further perception and judgement of that individual. Research shows that it takes only one tenth of a second to judge a person and create a fairly precise opinion of them. The precision of the impression depends on the observer as well as the target.

First Impressions / Self-Portrait is a series of small vector drawings, portraits of anonymous persons that I stumbled upon while using various video chat-rooms. The works explore the reactions of random individuals, caught in the moment when they see a strange person on the internet, that is, me. As the meeting is virtual and momentous, the stranger could perceive and judge me based solely on my external appearance. In the moment of their first contact with me, I captured their reaction to me on photograph. After that, I explored my own reactions to the frozen photos of strangers by reliving those individuals in the form of drawing, thus establishing a special relationship to each one through the process of portrayal.
